Hearing in a child - A checklist of red flags

Hearing deficits are some of the most common deficits that can be easily assessed and measured. There are many avenues that may be explored to help manage gaps in a child's hearing abilities. Problems associated with the way a child hears sounds in his/her environment can not only impair their ability to respond to their surroundings, but also greatly prevent them from speaking and developing their language and communication skills effectively. Thus, it is very important for parents to be aware of signs and hints that suggest a hearing concern in their infant. The infographic below provides a checklist that parents may use to become careful observants of their child's hearing behaviour and understand the changes one would expect to see with the increase in the age of the child.

Should you spot red flags that are indicative of a hearing impairment, then please do not cause any delay in addressing those concerns. Immediately visit your Pediatrician/audiologist (hearing specialist) to get your child's hearing assessment done immediately.
